Surviving the Winter Blues

 

 

The northwest Rocky Mountains can be a challenge to endure if you are not overly excited about winter, the snow and cold, and dark gray days.  The mountains tend to be more like 6 seasons as opposed to 4.  We add falter between fall and winter, and sprinter between spring and winter.  Many who like the snow and enjoy spring skiing or elk hunter before full on winter appreciate the early and late snow, but for those who do not, it adds to the long months of winter. If the cold and snow is not your favorite thing but you are living here in Bozeman anyway, there are a few things that you can do to help survive the winter and not get depressed.

As we fully embrace our Bozeman summer fun there are a couple of ways we can really spice up our diets for some amazing health benefits and also for some wonderful gustatory experiences too. Spices have been used throughout history for making food taste good and also for many health benefits. Learning to use spices and incorporating them into your cooking and your diet can be very beneficial for yours and your families health and can also help you to reduce the need for premade or prepackaged food that contain many artificial flavors and processed chemicals that are used to make food taste good but have health consequences associated with them like trans fats, MSG, high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, and excess sodium.

Immune System Boot Camp

You wouldn’t jump off the couch and go run a marathon without having done any training to prepare yourself for the long distance run would you? If you did you would feel an incredible amount of pain, breathing would be hard, your legs would hurt, you would get blisters on your feet, and most likely you would pass out from exhaustion before you reached the finish line if you don’t have a heart attack first. It’s a scary picture to think of, but if you start slow and train appropriately it becomes very achievable to finish running 26.2 miles all at once. Life is a marathon; it’s not a sprint. Just like a marathon it has a beginning, and an end, and their can be many different courses that we must travel from the straight and narrow to the up’s and down’s and everything in between.

Cheers, To your Health!

            The end of 2012 is just around the bend. Holy cow where did the year go? I know many of you are saying that as well. I do hope your year has been fruitful and blessed, and filled with many opportunities to gain growth, experience, and wisdom.
